Meet Kelly Cooney

Kelly-Ann Cooney (she/her) is a dynamic educator who works with districts to ensure instructional excellence for all students. She uses data and research-based best practices to build teacher capacity while working with administration to transform instruction and student student systems. Kelly works with local and state education agencies to support the implementation of high quality instructional materials that center literacy development and drive academic success for students from all backgrounds, particularly multilingual learners. She is also a consultant for the English Learner Success Forum, Understood.org, and iCivics.

20 + Years’ Experience

Instructional Leader and Multilingual Learner Specialist

Kelly was an instructor of the Sheltered English Immersion Endorsement course, which was part of the MA DESE RETELL initiative. Kelly has been an adjunct professor at several Boston area universities. Kelly received her undergraduate degree in French and Journalism at the University of Rhode Island, a Masters from the University of Oregon in Romance Languages, and a Masters in Curriculum & Instruction at Boston College. She holds several teaching and administrative licenses. Kelly founded EdQuity to help districts strengthen literacy development for all students and improve educational outcomes for multilingual learners in particular. Kelly has been immersed in understanding how to position teachers as action researchers in implementing research-based strategies into pedagogy.
